Paul Whittle has been a member of St Luke's Amateur Dramatic Society for over 20 years and is currently Joint Chairman.

Each year our society holds an Anniversary Service in church, where we usually perform excerpts from shows such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar etc. Very soon we began to run out of suitable material. As Paul has always written his own songs and music, the committee asked him if he could "write a little something". The following year we performed "The Word", quickly followed by "The Resurrection" both written by Paul. They were very well received by our members and audiences alike and both have since been performed by several other churches and schools.

Paul then set to and began writing a full scale musical and after five years he completed his masterpiece Jesu (c). Jesu (c) tells the story of Jesus Christ from birth to death. It is sometimes sad, often amusing and is guaranteed to leave you wanting more. It was not written by the book but it was written from the heart - it is Paul's interpretation and it is spellbinding!

SLADS performed Jesu (c) in February 2000 (21st - 26th) at St Luke's Parish Hall, Derby Road, Weaste, Salford. Paul has already been approached by other societies wishing to stage it.

It is hoped that the society will perform Jesu (c) at several other venues this year and next year, to share this new and exciting musical with a wider audience.

The first of these extra performances will be at the Lowry Centre in Salford Quays, 29-30th October 2000, which will be a fantastic experience for all the cast - our first foray onto a professional stage!

The show has been revised since its first performance to make it even more dramatic and will contain some new material.

Tickets are available from the Lowry Box Office on 0161-872-2000
